Dr. Ashlee mackens
Ashlee Mackens, DPM (previously Ashlee Starr, DPM) is a dedicated and skilled podiatric surgeon committed to providing exceptional, compassionate care. She believes in treating every patient like family—offering direct, honest communication and empowering individuals to take an active role in their treatment decisions. Dr. Mackens takes pride in practicing evidence-based medicine with a whole-person approach to healing and recovery.
Dr. Mackens earned her undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences with an emphasis in cellular, genetic, and developmental biology and a minor in sociology from Arizona State University, graduating early and with honors. Inspired by her family’s experience with diabetes and her own undergraduate research studying the disease in animal models, she developed an early passion for diabetic limb preservation and a deeper understanding of how systemic conditions affect lower extremity health.
She went on to earn her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona. Following medical school, Dr. Mackens is currently completing her Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency with Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Certification at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Her clinical interests include diabetic limb salvage, peripheral nerve pathology, and advanced surgical techniques such as targeted muscle reinnervation and regenerative peripheral nerve interface. Dr. Mackens is also deeply committed to mentorship and promoting the field of podiatry through academic involvement and community outreach.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Mackens is a certified master scuba diver and thrives on new experiences—whether that’s exploring underwater worlds, playing pickleball, hiking new trails, traveling, or cooking up healthy meals that actually taste good. Most of all, she enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends.
